2004 Conference Videos: Jacques Gérin

Jacques Gérin is a specialist in Environmental and Sustainable Development. He has been a manager and a consultant in the fields of natural resources management, economic development and the environment in both the public and private sectors, in Canada and internationally. Most recently Mr. Gérin has been appointed to the World Bank's International Advisory Group on the Chad-Cameroon Petroleum Development and Pipeline Project.

Mr. Gérin has worked extensively with the Federal Government of Canada. He has been the Vice-President of the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), Canada's Deputy Minister of Environment, and Deputy Minister of Northern Development. Mr. Gérin is also the former president of Hatch & Associés Inc. and was responsible for the Environment for the Hatch group of companies.

Mr. Gérin has chaired the Panel on Ecological Integrity of Canada's National Parks and the Joint Public Advisory Committee of the North American Commission for Environmental Cooperation. Presently, he is Chairman of the Board of the International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD) and a Governor of the International Development Research Centre (IDRC).

Jacques Gérin has received the Richard Beatty Mellon Award from the Air and Waste Management Association. He is a civil engineer with a Master's degree in Regional Planning.
